بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ ۝١

THE MOST GRACIOUS

عَلَّمَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ ۝٢

has imparted this Qur’an [unto man].

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ ۝۳

He has created man:

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلْبَيَانَ ۝٤

He has imparted unto him articulate thought and speech.

ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ بِحُسْبَانٍۢ ۝٥

[At His behest] the sun and the moon run their appointed courses;

وَٱلنَّجْمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ ۝٦

[before Him] prostrate them­selves the stars and the trees.

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلْمِيزَانَ ۝۷

And the skies has He raised high, and has devised [for all things] a measure,

أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْمِيزَانِ ۝۸

so that you [too, O men,] might never transgress the measure [of what is right]:

وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلْوَزْنَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا۟ ٱلْمِيزَانَ ۝۹

weigh, therefore, [your deeds] with equity, and cut not the measure short!

وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلْأَنَامِ ۝١۰

And the earth has He spread out for all living beings,

فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٌۭ وَٱلنَّخْلُ ذَاتُ ٱلْأَكْمَامِ ۝١١

with fruit thereon, and palm trees with sheathed clusters [of dates],

وَٱلْحَبُّ ذُو ٱلْعَصْفِ وَٱلرَّيْحَانُ ۝١٢

and grain growing tall on its stalks, and sweet-smelling plants.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١۳

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ كَٱلْفَخَّارِ ۝١٤

He has created man out of sounding clay, like pottery,

وَخَلَقَ ٱلْجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٍۢ مِّن نَّارٍۢ ۝١٥

whereas the invisible beings He has created out of a confusing flame of fire.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١٦

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

رَبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَغْرِبَيْنِ ۝١۷

[He is] the Sustainer of the two farthest points of sunrise, and the Sustainer of the two farthest points of sunset.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝١۸

Which, then, of your Sustain­er’s powers can you disavow?

مَرَجَ ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ ۝١۹

He has given freedom to the two great bodies of water, so that they might meet:

بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخٌۭ لَّا يَبْغِيَانِ ۝٢۰

[yet] between them is a barrier which they may not transgress.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢١

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

يَخْرُجُ مِنْهُمَا ٱللُّؤْلُؤُ وَٱلْمَرْجَانُ ۝٢٢

Out of these two [bodies of water] come forth pearls, both great and small.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢۳

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

وَلَهُ ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْمُنشَـَٔاتُ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ كَٱلْأَعْلَٰمِ ۝٢٤

And His are the lofty ships that sail like [floating] mountains through the seas.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢٥

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍۢ ۝٢٦

All that lives on earth or in the heavens is bound to pass away:

وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلْجَلَٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ ۝٢۷

but forever will abide thy Sustainer’s Self, full of majesty and glory.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٢۸

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

يَسْـَٔلُهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ هُوَ فِى شَأْنٍۢ ۝٢۹

On Him depends all creatures in the heavens and on earth; [and] every day He manifests Himself in yet another [wondrous] way.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝۳۰

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

سَنَفْرُغُ لَكُمْ أَيُّهَ ٱلثَّقَلَانِ ۝۳١

[ONE DAY] We shall take you to task, O you sin-laden two!

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝۳٢

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

يَٰمَعْشَرَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ إِنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتُمْ أَن تَنفُذُوا۟ مِنْ أَقْطَارِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنفُذُوا۟ ۚ لَا تَنفُذُونَ إِلَّا بِسُلْطَٰنٍۢ ۝۳۳

O you who live in close communion with [evil] invisible beings and humans! If you [think that you] can pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, pass beyond them! [But] you cannot pass beyond them, save by a sanction [from God]!

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝۳٤

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

يُرْسَلُ عَلَيْكُمَا شُوَاظٌۭ مِّن نَّارٍۢ وَنُحَاسٌۭ فَلَا تَنتَصِرَانِ ۝۳٥

A flash of fire will be let loose upon you, and smoke, and you will be left without succour!

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝۳٦

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

فَإِذَا ٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ وَرْدَةًۭ كَٱلدِّهَانِ ۝۳۷

And when the sky is rent asunder and becomes red like [burning] oil

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝۳۸

which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ لَّا يُسْـَٔلُ عَن ذَنۢبِهِۦٓ إِنسٌۭ وَلَا جَآنٌّۭ ۝۳۹

For on that Day neither man nor invisible being will be asked about his sins.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤۰

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

يُعْرَفُ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ بِسِيمَٰهُمْ فَيُؤْخَذُ بِٱلنَّوَٰصِى وَٱلْأَقْدَامِ ۝٤١

All who were lost in sin shall by their marks be known, and shall by their forelocks and their feet be seized!

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٢

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

هَٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ ۝٤۳

This will be the hell which those who are lost in sin [now] call a lie:

يَطُوفُونَ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ حَمِيمٍ ءَانٍۢ ۝٤٤

between it and [their own] burning-hot despair will they wander to and fro!

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤٥

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

وَلِمَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ جَنَّتَانِ ۝٤٦

BUT FOR THOSE who of their Sustainer’s Presence stand in fear, two gardens [of paradise are readied] -

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤۷

which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow? –

ذَوَاتَآ أَفْنَانٍۢ ۝٤۸

[two gardens] of many wondrous hues.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٤۹

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

فِيهِمَا عَيْنَانِ تَجْرِيَانِ ۝٥۰

In [each of] these two [gardens] two springs will flow.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥١

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

فِيهِمَا مِن كُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍۢ زَوْجَانِ ۝٥٢

In [each of] these two will two kinds of every fruit be [found].

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥۳

Which, then, of your Sustainer s powers can you disavow?

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ فُرُشٍۭ بَطَآئِنُهَا مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍۢ ۚ وَجَنَى ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ دَانٍۢ ۝٥٤

[In such a paradise the blest will dwell,] reclin­ing upon carpets lined with rich brocade; and the fruit of both these gardens will be within easy reach.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥٥

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

فِيهِنَّ قَٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنسٌۭ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَآنٌّۭ ۝٥٦

In these [gardens] will be mates of modest gaze, whom neither man nor invisible being will have touched ere then.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥۷

Which, then, of your Sus­tainer’s powers can you disavow?

كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلْيَاقُوتُ وَٱلْمَرْجَانُ ۝٥۸

[When you are promised splendours] as though [of] rubies and [of] pearls –

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٥۹

which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

هَلْ جَزَآءُ ٱلْإِحْسَٰنِ إِلَّا ٱلْإِحْسَٰنُ ۝٦۰

Could the reward of good be aught but good?

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦١

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ ۝٦٢

And besides those two will be yet two [other] gardens -

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦۳

which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow? –

مُدْهَآمَّتَانِ ۝٦٤

two [gardens] of the deepest green.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦٥

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

فِيهِمَا عَيْنَانِ نَضَّاخَتَانِ ۝٦٦

In [each of] these two [gardens] will two springs gush forth.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦۷

Which, then, of your Sus­tainer’s powers can you disavow?

فِيهِمَا فَٰكِهَةٌۭ وَنَخْلٌۭ وَرُمَّانٌۭ ۝٦۸

In both of them will be [all kinds of] fruit, and date-palms and pomegranates.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝٦۹

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

فِيهِنَّ خَيْرَٰتٌ حِسَانٌۭ ۝۷۰

In these [gardens] will be [all] things most excellent and beautiful.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝۷١

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

حُورٌۭ مَّقْصُورَٰتٌۭ فِى ٱلْخِيَامِ ۝۷٢

[There the blest will live with their] companions pure and modest, in pavilions [splendid] -

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝۷۳

which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow? –

لَمْ يَطْمِثْهُنَّ إِنسٌۭ قَبْلَهُمْ وَلَا جَآنٌّۭ ۝۷٤

[companions] whom neither man nor invisible being will have touched ere then.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝۷٥

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ رَفْرَفٍ خُضْرٍۢ وَعَبْقَرِىٍّ حِسَانٍۢ ۝۷٦

[In such a paradise will they dwell,] reclining upon meadows green and carpets rich in beauty.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ۝۷۷

Which, then, of your Sustainer’s powers can you disavow?

تَبَٰرَكَ ٱسْمُ رَبِّكَ ذِى ٱلْجَلَٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ ۝۷۸

HALLOWED be thy Sustainer’s name, full of majesty and glory!
